CATCHING SOME Waves

By: Michaela Rafferty

Ahh, the calm of the waves and the cool of the water. It’s that summer season again, and we can’t wait to head out to our favorite spots to cool off. Now, I have to admit I am a beach kind of girl, and I go no matter the season because I live in sunny Southern California where it barely rains. But, if you are not fortunate to live in a summery place all year long, then I suggest that you grab a towel, some flip-flops, sunscreen, and a big floppy hat and take advantage of this hot weather while it lasts.🌊

There are so many benefits to including some water therapy into your summer plans. Let’s start with the calming effect that it has on the mind, if you are sitting at the beach, close your eyes, slowly inhale and exhale and let the waves crashing into the shore speak to your soul. Taking a dip is just as relaxing, if you are feeling adventurous try snorkeling or grab a surfboard and ride the waves. Being with friends, family, or your bae can be just as fun at the beach, so grab the frisbee, volleyball, and picnic basket to enjoy some fun time on the sand. Perhaps you are an evening by the fire person, gather up some friends, family, or your bae, share some laughs, and a story or two while sipping on a drink. Maybe you may want to snuggle with a special someone while the flames dances and the wood crackles as you both stare into the illuminated deep dark beyond listening to the waves.

Grab a beach chair or a cabana and chillax at a place I like to call the “sweet spot” for a dip without all the sand. I enjoy taking a vacation where there is a nice view by the pool because this has healing properties too. Depending on where you go to enjoy poolside relaxation, for example, you may want some self-quality time to yourself, I recommend finding a nice resort with a spa, and booking a trip whether in your state, statewide, or internationally. I enjoy booking a two-day stay at Montage in Laguna Beach in California, but if I travel internationally then my calm places are either: Morocco, Thailand, or Egypt. You’re a city girl, you say, well if you live in an apartment with a pool, try to head out before everyone else does, if peace and quiet are what you’re after, cuz we all know that summer means school’s out and your chill by the pool will be interrupted by loud screams and splashing. I highly recommend checking into a local hotel with a pool for the day, if all else fails then try friends, family, or bae with a backyard pool and if that doesn’t work then get an inflatable pool and enjoy!
